Ayurveda has revered the use of Clay (terracotta) for cooking, dining and for daily kitchen needs for centuries.
Benefits:
- The rotis taste delicious as the clay naturally enhances the taste and aroma.
- In other cookware, most nutrients due to heat deteriorate and get lost while cooking. Nutrients are persevered in when cooked on an earthen pan.
- Clay pan is naturally alkaline thus they neutralise the pH of the food cooked to lower acidity. Hence, managing heaviness, bloating or acidity after eating.
- Rotis cooked on a clay pan is easier to digest.
- Allows heat circulation; rotis will stay hotter for longer because clay lowers moisture, and evenly distributes heat.
- Clay is naturally antimicrobial thus it helps to destroy toxins and bacteria present in the food while cooking.
- Less oil usage due to heat resistance & slow cooking.
- Can be used for cooking rotis, pancakes and much more.
Cleaning:
- For a regular clean soak a soft sponge in warm water, apply Baking Soda or Lemon Juice and gently rub clean the Tawa (without dishwashing liquid).
- Do not use metallic scouring pads.
- Do not clean with soap or detergent.
- Use only lemon juice/peel or baking soda for cleaning.
- Only hand wash. Do not use the dishwasher for any clay vessel.
- After cooking allow the vessel to cool down.
- After the vessel naturally dries, coat it with olive oil (or any natural oil).
Care & Maintenance:
- Not suitable for electric stoves.
- Ensure you cook on a low flame.
- Use silicone or wood ladles only.
- Before First Use: Clean the Tawa with a clean cloth. Once the tawa is clean, you can make rotis on a low flame.
- Avoid stacking other cookware on top to avoid breakage.
- Never soak the tawa in water (On soaking the tawa will absorb water and when putting on gas stove, either it might crack or due to evaporation of water, there will be bubble formation in the Non stick).
- Always Keep the Hot Tawa or Cooking Vessel on a stand or a Cloth to avoid cracking due to temperature difference of cold and hot surfaces.
- Do not add any frozen foods when clay cookware is heating/cooking. Allow frozen foods to be cooled down to room temperature first then add it in. Immediate opposite temperatures can shock the clay and makes it vulnerable.
- Make sure to put a cushion of tissue/cloth between each product while stacking.
