Ashoka powder is derived from the bark of the evergreen Ashoka tree, found growing across India. Highly revered in Ayurveda for its unmatched benefits to the female reproductive system, Ashoka has been used traditionally as a powerful women’s herb.
Benefits as per Ayurveda:
- Nourishes the heart, and maintains healthy endometrial and ovarian tissues.
In Sanskrit, "Ashoka" means "Remover of Sorrow", alleviating pain and discomfort. Energetically, it has an effect of removing sorrow from the heart.
Ashoka helps to relax an overactive Central Nervous System, which may help in inducing sleep. The quality and duration of sleep can be improved due to the presence of certain flavonoids, glycosides and tannins in Ashoka.
Ashoka is a cooling herb, which is balancing for Pitta and Kapha.
Contraindications: Avoid the use of this herb if you have constipation.
Usage: For aid in relief from Menstrual issues, it is best if the use of Ashoka is cycled. It should not be consumed during menstruation. As per Ayurveda, this herb should be used for three- fifth of the month, leading up to menstruation. Once menstruation ends, it can be used up to the 10th day, then this cycle should be repeated. (E.g.: For three- fifths of the month, use Ashoka, then if menstruation begins on the 6th day, and continues from the 6th to the 11th day (or until menstruation ends) do not consume Ashoka, finally on the 12th (or the day when menstruation ends), consume Ashoka up to the 22nd day. Cycle the use of Ashoka in the next month too, in this way.)
