Hair oiling is one of the oldest hair care traditions in India. Just Herbs Javakusum Hair Oil brings that simple, relaxing ritual straight to your bathroom. There's no need to buy and mix separate oils yourself.

Javakusum is the Sanskrit name for the hibiscus flower, long loved in Ayurvedic tradition for its nourishing properties. Here, it is blended with amla (Indian gooseberry) and henna, then steeped into a base of three nutrient-rich, cold-pressed oils: castor, extra virgin coconut, and sesame.

Cruelty-free, paraben-free, mineral oil-free.

100ml

Benefits

-Spreads easily through your hair without feeling heavy.
-Has a comforting, natural, earthy scent.
-Leaves hair feeling soft, manageable, glossy, and much easier to comb.

How To Use

Warm It: Pour a small amount into a heat-safe dish and rest it in a bowl of warm water for a minute. Warm oil spreads more easily and feels deeply relaxing.

Apply: Section your hair and work the oil directly into your scalp, then smooth the rest down to the tips.

Massage: Gently massage your scalp using your fingertips in small circular motions for 5-10 minutes.

Rest: Leave the oil in for at least an hour. For a deeper treatment, leave it overnight (use an old towel over your pillow to protect it).

Rinse: Wash out thoroughly with a mild shampoo. You may need two lathers to remove all the oil.

Safety & Precautions

External use only. Do not swallow.

Patch test first: Apply a small amount to the inner elbow and wait 15 minutes. Stop use if irritation occurs.

Allergens: Contains sesame and coconut. Avoid if sensitive.

Henna: May tint light, white, or grey hair and stain light fabrics. Use dark towels.

Avoid eyes & damaged skin: Rinse with cool water if it gets in the eyes. Do not apply to broken, sunburnt, or inflamed skin.

Storage: Keep out of reach of children. Store cool and dry, away from sunlight.

Certificate + Authenticity

To verify that a herb is authentic it is issued with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) which contains tests (heavy metals/safety/identification) done on every batch of herb manufacturing. E.g Amla COA or Ashwagandha COA. COAs for every herb are available via email request.

Please note shilajit cannot be claimed as organic as it's not cultivated by humans, it's extracted from special shilajit rocks which is only produced by nature. Shilajit can only be tested for heavy metals which we have done in a Eurofins Laboratory (document is available here)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Javakusum Hair Oil?

It's a traditional Indian hair oil. Javakusum is the Sanskrit name for the hibiscus flower, and this blend pairs hibiscus with amla (Indian gooseberry) and henna, steeped into a base of three cold-pressed oils — castor, extra virgin coconut and sesame. It's used as a pre-wash treatment: you massage it in, leave it, then wash it out.

What does it do for my hair?

It conditions. Hair feels softer and smoother, combs through more easily, and looks glossier rather than dull once washed out. The scalp feels less dry and tight. It's a grooming and conditioning oil, not a treatment for any scalp or hair condition.

Why use a hair oil at all if I already use conditioner?

They do different jobs. Conditioner is applied after washing and works mostly on the outside of the strand. A pre-wash oil sits on the hair and scalp for an hour or more before you shampoo, so it has time to soften the hair and make it easier to manage. Many people use both.

How often should I use it?

Once or twice a week is plenty for most people. If your hair is very fine or gets oily quickly, once a week or even once a fortnight is fine. There's no benefit to using it daily.

How much should I use?

Start small — about a teaspoon for short or fine hair, up to two or three for long or thick hair. It's easier to add a little more than to wash out too much.
