The body is naturally meant to release stool but if powerful laxatives are used on regular basis without sufficient breaks, the body forgets the basic mechanism as it becomes dependant which causes long term bowel problems. Hence, Ayurveda recommend breaks (1 - 2 months use then 1 month break, then repeat if required) with using any herb.
